The MAfestival Brugge 2018 asked Seldom Sene and countertenor Daniel Elgersma to make a programme focused on Margaret of Austria (1480–1530). We chose vocal music from Margaret’s personal songbook, a collection of chansons and motets with many direct references to her life. Delightful music and refined poetry bring to life a deeply touching story. The programme also features charming instrumental music from a manuscript produced at the workshop of master copyist Petrus Alamire, closely associated with Margaret’s court.
